The Windward Islands Research and Education Foundation (WINDREF) promotes health, well-being, and sustainable development through multi-disciplinary research, education, and community programs. WINDREF strives for program excellence by promoting collaborative relationships between leading internationally recognized scholars and regional scientists, and by adhering to the highest ethical and academic standards in the design and conduct of research.

Founded in 1994, WINDREF is an independent nonprofit organization registered with the United States Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation. It is also registered in Grenada as a Non-Governmental Organization in compliance with section 328 of the Companies Act 1994, and in 1999 was registered in the United Kingdom as a Charitable Trust in compliance with UK Charities Act 1993.

The activities of the Foundation are overseen by an international board of directors, board of trustees, and scientific advisory board.

Founded as an independent School of Medicine in 1976, St. George’s University, the Premier Choice in Caribbean Medical Schools, has evolved into a top center of international education, drawing students and faculty from 140 countries to the island of Grenada.

The University’s over 22,000 graduates include physicians, veterinarians, scientists, and public health and business professionals across the world.

The Bioethics Unit attached to the Faculty of Philosophy, at the Querétaro Autonomous University, provides the environment where the efforts of an institutional bioethics culture, teaching training programs, research and extension projects, continuous training platform in research ethics, and educational programs associated with the study of bioethics converge.
